All dentistry starts with pre-anesthetic bloodwork to assess your pet's health. To assure thorough cleaning and assessment of dental health your pet will be under general anesthesia. General anesthesia is closely monitored with up to date technology including heart rate, pulse/oxygen, blood pressure, and respiration to minimize any risk during the procedure.
The teeth are ultrasonic cleaned and polished as well as measuring periodontal depth to assess gum disease. Any necessary extractions or oral surgery is done during the dental procedure. If there are any unforseen extractions or oral surgery required you will be notified during the procedure. An IV catheter and IV fluids are maintained during the dentistry and recovery. Antibiotics are administered prior to the dental to avoid infection.
In addition pain medication is administered prior to the dental and after during recovery. When needed pain medication and antibiotics are dispensed during home recovery. A follow-up re-check usually one week later is included. Any more advanced dental procedures such as root canal, tooth restoration or complicated oral surgery we refer to board certified dental specialist
